Oman Adventure

Last weekend the Reinhart family took a weekend trip to the Sultanate of Oman. Yes, that's right ... Oman is ruled by a Sultan. It was about a 5 hour drive from Dubai through the desert and along the Persian and Oman Gulf coasts. We were headed for Muscat, the capitol city. Oman and Muscat are much less Westernized than Dubai with much less expatriate population and more traditional Arabic architecture and life. We stayed at the Shangri La resort located just outside Muscat in the mountains along the coast.

The girls from our balcony at Shangri La.

Shangri La is a beautiful resort with a private beach and many CHILLED pools including a lazy river ride. It was a blast. The pool and beach were relaxing and the food was awesome. We ate an excellent Middle Eastern dinner and other foods. The girls have developed a taste for Chicken Tiki (Indian), Kabobs, and Lamb.

Shelley and Katie enjoying the very warm Gulf of Oman at Shagri La.

Maura and Maggie at the beach finding lots of remarkable shells.

The girls enjoyed hunting for hermit crabs

Annie preferred the pool and swimming with Daddy.

One
evening, we went to the old town Muscat Souk (market). The Souk area was a maze of narrow allies filled with small shops selling jewelry, silks, souvenirs, and other items. The girls were good at finding stuff to buy. Daddy was good at haggling down the price.

The girls looking for a good deal.

Annie was into the exotic headware.

Enjoying milkshakes on the plaza outside the Souk.

Mountain views near the entrance to Shangri La in Muscat.
